Tips for Surviving the Holidays

The holiday season can bring a lot of stress especially to many of our union brothers and sisters. We have complied some tips to beat the holiday stress.

1. Keep your regular routine.
A change in routine can lead to additional stress.

2. Know when to take a break
If you get overwhelmed, ask the manager for your break and use the time to decompress. You have to know your limits.

3. Focus on today, not yesterday
If there is a customer/issue that rattled you yesterday do your best to start fresh for today.

4. Complaints aren’t about you – until they are.
While you will be surprised by how many customers, if you treat them nice, will treat you nice, some customers will not be on their best behavior. Understand it and try to figure out how not to take their comments personally. Getting a supervisor and removing yourself from the situation is always better than letting the situation get the better of you.

5. Be good to yourself.
Stay hydrated, bring a light snack to stay fueled and take all the breaks and lunches that you are entitled to.
