Victory for pregnant workers thanks to UFCW 227 Lobby Days

UFCW 227 Members Played Major Role in Protecting Pregnant Workers!

On March 28th, the Kentucky State House passed a bill that gives pregnant women the right to reasonable accommodations at work to ensure they have a healthy and safe pregnancy. If the Governor signs the bill, Kentucky will be the 25th state to guarantee these important workplace protections.

The bi-partisan success is the result of tireless advocacy by almost 300 members of UFCW Local 227 and other coalition partners. For three consecutive years, UFCW 227 members traveled to Frankfort to urge their Senators and Representative to vote to pass the Pregnant Worker’s Rights bill. 

“The hard work and persistence of UFCW 227 members who came back to the Capitol, year after year, to advocate for pregnant worker protections will mean that no one in Kentucky has to choose between their job and a healthy pregnancy,” said UFCW 227 President Bob Blair. “The Pregnant Worker’s Rights act is a perfect example of how unions work hard to make the lives of their members and every hard working man and women better.”
