Get the most out of Tax Season

Filing taxes is always important but the 2020 tax year might need a little extra attention, and that could mean a bigger return.

Did the stimulus check or checks you received not add up to what you thought? Did you have a baby this year? Did you get a paper check that came much later than most people you know?

Filing taxes as soon as possible for 2020 might not only fix those problems, but have the added bonus of making sure you get the right amount, and get it faster, if there is another stimulus check! As an added bonus UFCW 227 members have several discounts to choose from when filing taxes, which means even more money in your pocket.

If you think you received the wrong amount on your checks you can fix that during the filing of your 2020 taxes. If you aren’t sure what you should have received you can check using the following calculators provided by CNET.com

Here's how to calculate the payments you were owed:

·      For the first check, use this $1,200 stimulus calculator to estimate your total.

·      For the second check, use this $600 stimulus calculator for an estimate.

·      To predict a possible third check, use this $1,400 calculator.

According to CNET.com you should also check on the “Charitable donation deductions. This year, you can deduct up to $300 in donations to qualifying charities -- even if you don't itemize. A temporary provision of the CARES Act designed to encourage giving, this deduction can't be carried forward into subsequent years. You can search for eligible organizations with the Tax Exempt Organization Search tool on IRS.gov. (Learn more.) “
