Have you seen that registration is now open for the 2nd Annual Be the Good UFCW 227 Foundation Virtual 5k or 1-mile Fun Run/Walk? So why support the foundation? Belinda Arms, the chief union steward at Tyson in Corydon, IN and a UFCW 227 Executive Board member said “Our UFCW 227 Foundation is more than you can imagine. From college scholarships- to helping with hardships we may incur in life. We are there for YOU!” Belinda has worked on fundraisers through the foundation for countless fellow members during their most difficult times. When our union family says we are here for you, this is just part of what we mean. 

As union members we work together for a better life through our union contracts and member only benefits. We do this by using our strength in numbers, because we are more powerful together than alone. That same thought is what makes the UFCW 227 Foundation successful. This charitable 501(c)3 organization has been how we’ve paid more than $300,000 out in scholarships, along with thousands in hardship grants to help members, local charities, and our new childcare grant. 

UFCW 227 members take pride in being part of something that is doing so much good- helping someone pay for college, or being able to lend a hand when someone is in need isn’t something we can always do alone, but we can when we come together.

Sharon Bayens is the chief union steward at Kroger 376 in Louisville, KY, a UFCW 227 Executive Board member, and serves on the UFCW 227 Foundation Board. Sharon supports the foundation because “Behind the scenes UFCW 227 is always working for our union brothers and sisters. Our Foundation is just a portion of that, but the impact for members is big. It’s another reason I’m proud to be a UFCW 227 member”
