Son Honors Mom, Brenda Ross, for Length of Service and Hard Work on Christmas

Brenda Ross has served the Lexington community at the Tates Creek Kroger for 31 years. When COVID-19 hit, Brenda went to work in the pharmacy as she always has being the constant presence and smile - even behind a mask - that her customers know and love.

Seeing how hard his mother was working, Brenda’s son, Jylan Ross, contacted our union, local officials and Kroger to do something to show her how proud he was of her and to honor her legacy of service. On Christmas Day he presented her with proclamations from Lexington State Senator Reginald Thomas, Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton and Frankfort Mayor William May declaring December 25th, 2020 Brenda Ross Appreciation Day.

“Brenda is the epitome of what makes our union family great,” said UFCW 227 President Bob Blair. “For 31 years, she has served our community by making sure they have what they need for themselves and their families every single day. Her work is incredibly important, always, not just during COVID-19.”

Like so many essential workers, COVID-19 has made Brenda’s job more difficult and dangerous. She continues to show up and make sure that people in her community have the medications they need to survive. Brenda and all of our dedicated frontline members have proven through their hard work that they are the backbone of our communities.

“We want to thank Brenda’s son, Jylan, for reaching out to us to be a part of recognizing his mom’s hard work and 31 years of service,” said UFCW 227 Secretary Treasurer Paul L. Whiteley, Jr. “We are so grateful that Brenda is a part of our union family and for all of her important work helping the community that shops at Tates Creek Kroger.”

In addition to her 31 years of service as a UFCW 227 member at Tates Creek Kroger, she has faithfully served her church, Star of Bethlehem Baptized Pentecostal Church Of Holiness Inc., for 40 years.
