Apply For the UFCW 227 Scholarship and Win Up to $2000
Did you know that UFCW 227 has a scholarship fund that could give you money to go to school?
Matthew Wolfe, a member out of Kroger 347, won one of the 2019 scholarships. Matthew is a non-traditional student and has been a part of the UFCW 227 family for 12 years! He is currently studying Computer and Information Technologies at BCTC. He won $2000 after applying for the scholarship upon learning about the program at a union meeting. “Thankfully, I’ve only needed the union a few times but they have always been there for me,” says Matthew. “They are definitely worth the price.”
Every year, UFCW Local 227 distributes five $2000 scholarships to students seeking a degree. This can include members, their spouses and dependent children or grandchildren of union members. Applications are available here and rules and guidelines are available here.
UFCW aims to offer resources for all of our members and their families, no matter where you are in life.
“Having this financial support from the union that both my parents are a part of made a huge difference in my college experience,” said Angie Hilen, daughter of Sue and Chris Hilen (Kroger 359). “It significantly reduced the amount of debt I owe and made it possible for me to be a first generation college student.”
Angie Hilen’s parents, Chris and Sue, are both UFCW 227 members at Kroger 359 in Lexington. Angie earned a UFCW 227 scholarship all four years of her college and is now a teacher at the same elementary school she attended. Angie plans on joining the teacher’s union and is a proud union daughter.
UFCW 227 members and their families have many benefits to help make their lives better, some other options for scholarships to check out include the UFCW International Scholarship Program.
