#membermonday Kathy McKinley
Kathy McKinley a proud Union member since 2000 has a loving story about the adoption of her 2 grandsons that she would graciously like to share with her Local 227 Family. A little over 3 years ago in June of 2017 Kathy’s son and Daughter in Law lovingly opened their hearts and home to two boys Ary, 2 weeks old and addicted to heroin, and Aikiles his 13-month-old brother who at birth was also born into addiction. With much help from family, friends and their parish they were given many items to get their home ready for these wonderful boys. As with all adoptions the boys were assigned social workers who helped get the boys and the family connected with the resources necessary to provide for their medical needs. In home care was necessary and they went to an OVEC day care as part of their adoption requirements. Finally, after checking all the state mandated boxes the boy’s official adoption took place on April 26th, 2019. They family keeps in contact with the boy’s maternal grandmother who has custody of their older sister. These 2 “Brubbers” have a very close relationship and are inseparable. They are now both happy healthy boys with no residual effects of their birth addictions. Kathy calls them “Mawmaw’s little stinkers” and couldn’t imagine her life without them in it. The world has many little angels that need a loving home and Kathy is joyful to have these two in hers.
