UFCW 227 Foundation Awards $2,000 Scholarships to Five Kentucky Students

Grocery & Meatpacking Workers Union Has Awarded Over $200,000 in Scholarships Since 2000

Louisville, KY – UFCW 227 announced today five(5) Kentucky students who will be the recipients of $2,000 academic scholarships for the 2020-2021 school year. This year’s award recipients are:

Ashleigh Deno, Owensboro, KY – Attending Murray State
Bennett Young, Louisville, KY – Attending Pennsylvania State University
Magan Wright, Frankfort, KY – Attending Eastern Kentucky University
Martin Sanders-Whiteley, Louisville, KY – Attending Hanover College
Veronica Palmer, Lexington, KY – Attending Bluegrass Community and Technical College 

“Making life better for our members and their families and making our community stronger is what our union is about,” said UFCW 227 President Bob Blair. “In these uncertain times, we’re all looking forward to a brighter future and by helping these students and their families pay for school we are investing in the leaders of that bright future.”

The UFCW 227 Foundation is a 501(c)3 founded by United Food and Commercial Workers Local 227 leadership, membership and supporters. The Foundation raises money year-round to support annual academic scholarships for union members and their families, a hardship program for union members, and a variety of community investments and causes. The UFCW 227 Foundation Scholarship program is funded entirely from rental income generated by inviting our members and the community to hold weddings, birthdays and other family events in our Louisville building.
