COVID-19 Basics: How to Protect Yourself and Others

In many counties where UFCW 227 members work and live COVID-19 case levels are high and continue to rise with new variants. Over the last 2 1/2 years, we’ve learned a lot about how to protect ourselves and our family members from the virus. We all work hard and getting sick is an inconvenience we’d all like to avoid. Take the following steps to protect yourself and your family from COVID-19, the flu, colds and other illnesses.

  • Wash Your Hands Frequently for at least 20 seconds
    - After blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing
    - Before you eat or make yourself something to eat
    - After using the bathroom

  • Use hand sanitizer that has at least 60% alcohol

  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the inside of your elbow

  • Clean surfaces such as doorknobs, light switches, phones and remote controls

  • If communities levels are high where you live or a member of your family has a higher risk of getting severely sick wear a mask: check COVID levels in your county here

  • Test if you think you feel sick
    - Over the counter self-tests are easy to use and give you fast results

  • Know when to quarantine: the latest CDC guidance can be found here

  • Get vaccinated and boosted - vaccines are the best way to prevent you and your family from getting seriously sick
