Apply for the UFCW 227 Scholarship

Every year our UFCW 227 Foundation distributes $2,000 scholarships to 5 deserving students to help cover the cost of tuition. The cost of college tuition keeps going up and for anyone who wants to get their degree receiving a scholarship can be a big help.

Do you know a student who could use help paying for school? Are you that student? Apply for the UFCW 227 Foundation scholarship for your chance to earn $2,000 towards the cost of your tuition.

Who is eligible?

UFCW Local 227 members, their spouses and dependents (children, step-children and grandchildren) attending a 2-year or 4-year college or trade school are eligible to apply. You must be a dues paying member for at least 90 days prior to the scholarship application deadline, which is June 1, 2025. You can see the full rules and eligibility guidelines here.

How do I apply?

You can apply for the UFCW 227 Foundation Scholarship in 3 easy steps!

  1. Write an essay to submit with your online application (read the essay prompt below!)

  2. Fill out our short online application (don’t forget to attach your essay!) Click here to start your online application.

  3. Submit your acceptance letter or enrollment receipt, a letter of recommendation, and a transcript (non-traditional students will not be required to submit a transcript) by mail (attn Bridget Dunn, 9505 Williamsburg Plaza, Suite 200, Louisville, KY 40222) or email at postmaster@ufcw227.org.

The 2025 Essay Prompt

Is it possible to start out in the working class in this country, work hard and become well-off? How possible? And do you think it is getting easier or harder than it used to be? What can leaders do to help more people achieve the American Dream?

Please be sure to support your answers to each question with data and include any additional works cited page with your essay. Essays written using AI tools will be disqualified.
