Celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage month celebrates and recognizes the contributions of people of Asian and Pacific Islander decent to our country. It is also a time when we highlight our year-round commitment to stopping anti-Asian hate.

Asian American and Pacific Islander union members contribute significantly to our union and work hard every day to provide a better life for themselves and their families. The AAPI community includes cultures from the entire Asian continent - including East, Southeast and South Asia - and the Pacific Islands of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia.

According to History.com, we celebrate our union brothers and sisters and the entire AAPI community in May because it commemorates the immigration of the first Japanese people to the United States and the completion of the transcontinental railroad that would not have been possible without Chinese workers.

Stop AAPI Hate launched a national campaign called Spread AAPI Love this month. Their four themes for the campaign are: Resilience, Celebration, Solidarity and Resistance. All of these themes are also core themes of our union family.
